At the onset of his last article With leaders like these, who needs enemies, Siadist ringleader Mohsin Mahad regrets " the present deceptive calm in the SSC regions."

Let the reader unfamiliar with Sool affairs be reminded that after years of Puntland presence, locals in Lascanood decided to chase away Cadde Musse militia. And since then, the unthinkable happened in my hometown; the city whose landmark was the hordes of armed men roaming the streets and the daily interclan killings is today an oasis of calm and peace. Following the example of fellow Somalilanders, Lascanoders have decided to turn in the weapons to the newly founded police and to settle their differences through the nascent and highly successful system court put in place by Somaliland backed new authorities.

In all fairness, anyone had the opportunity to see that Somaliland haters are increasingly turning desperate in their futile effort to derail Somaliland recognition bid. Case in point, Somaliland haters prime meeting place (Wardheernews.com) published a 1994 Qaybe article. Seizing up on the opportunity, Siadist Mohsin Mahad defended Wardheernews decision to reprint the article stating that

"Those refutable home truths stood the test of time and remain as valid today as they were when he first made them at that time. And it is this reminding that makes then today an anathema in secessionist circles."

Fair enough but we all know that Qaybe has since embraced Somaliland cause and to denigrate the Lascanood most senior politician, Mohsin Mahad contends that

"Qaybe has always been a solitary lonely figure in every sense of the word with no grassroots back-up in his native home ground."

Waar manaa walaan mise Cadan ayaa laga heesayaa. If Qaybe has always been a loser and opportunist with no following in Lascanood (as Siadist Mohsin Mahad says), why then his 1994 comments deserves merit and republishing.

Back to the main point, while desperate comments were to be expected from the ever-shrinking ranks of Pro-Puntland Lascanoders as a mean of to encourage bonding among them, one has to wonder why on earth could someone wish bloodshed upon his homeland? Doesn’t Mohsin Mahad think that Lascanoders finally deserve peace and stability? One thing is for Pro Puntland Lascanoders to push civilians out my hometown by broadcasting Puntland army silly sabre rattling, another is to openly call for a major deflagration inside your hometown.

At the core of every Pro Puntland Lascanoders lies the belief that SSC regions should be socialized to accept their dehumanization; how can you otherwise conceive that none of Mohsin Mahad clique objected when Lascanood was submitted to economic exploitation from Puntland when as the same time Lascanoders were either killed in Garowe jails or serving as Yey foot soldiers. Equating unrest with honor has led Lascanood into the abyss. Why Mohsin Mahad clique do not respond when Lascanoders are subject to daily belittling, when Puntland even denied that colonel Deyr IskaToos was a member of its army (less that three months after he was named by decree to the deputy army chairman)? Why is Mohsin relying on Puntland counteroffensive when they are insulting they highest ranking SSC officer among their ranks?

Sadly the bizarre beliefs permeating this culture that violence and chronic under development are natural in Lascanood will require time and patience before they are eliminated. Fortunately Lascanoders have hit this long road.

Mohamed Sougal
mohamedsougal@yahoo.com

Pro Puntland Lascanoders should stop insulting the great people of Awdal

Pro Puntland Lascanoders should stop insulting the great people of Awdal

Following the recent events in Lascanood, major Pro Puntland Lascanoders website have begun to shed the mask and show their tribal hatred mindset. While other Somaliland clans are not immune, wave of tribal bashing is primarilay aimed at Awdalites. As recently as today, Pro Puntland Lascanoders biggest website, jidbaale.com was referring to Awdalites as HUUNADA

http://jidbaale.com/fullpage.php?sscid=5974&PHPSESSID=513113fd6fb3237111b3cdeb26d74b9d

This Awdal bashing has started in earnest lat November

http://www.jidbaale.com/fullpage.php?sscid=5509&PHPSESSID=07988a74e75e8047dd880 abbd171632b

When Jidbaale.com has started calling Awdalites Huuno and has increased since then. All major Pro Puntland Lascanoders websites has joined the fray boocame.com, allcayn.com by publishing a series of particularly disgusting anti Awdal cartoons by an idiot called Ina Dhoolo. Here is on example of the dozen of hate laden cartoons

http://www.boocame.com/page_view.php?articleid=657

As a Lascanoders, I feed deeply hurt that the only Somali websites engaging in tribal name calling are the ones displaying a Sool name. In Pro Puntland Lascanoders websites, Idoor and Huuno are daily occurrences. The ironic part is that these websites are owned by members of so called unity groups like NSPU.

Finally, I would like to tell the great people of Awdal that these silly name callings do not represent the general view of Lascanoders but only the last gasp of tribal minded groups like NSPU. Far from deserving these insults, Awdalites are to be commended for their achievements and a shining example for other Somaliland regions.

Mohamed Sougal
mohamedsougal@yahoo.com

Lascanoders Abroad to YEY: Not in my name

Lascanoders Abroad to YEY: Not in my name

For years, Baidoa-based warlord Abdillahi Yusuf has meticulously avoided the issue of the Puntland-Somaliland tug of war about Sool. Delusionally claiming to govern both Somaliland and Puntland, Yey has stuck to his hypocritical “above the fray” stance while at the same time arming and training the Pro-Puntland militia in Lascanoders. At multiple instances, TFG militias have been shipped from Mogadishu and Kismayo when it become obvious to Adde Musse that Lascanoders were about to get rid off his ragtag militia.

However, today, Abdillahi Yusuf decided to finally drop the mask. He sees the situation in Lascanood as Somaliland army occupying Puntland territory. Never mind if Lascanoders chose to chase away Puntland militias. Despite the fact that Lascanoders are in charge at all levels in Sool. So why is Yey quickly abandoning his years long policy of hypocritical neutrality to move to a full backing of Puntland? The recent dramatic surge in momentum of the Somaliland recognition bid undoubtedly provides the answer. It appears that Yey has been summoned by the TFG warehouse sheltered parliamentarians to take on a more aggressive stance towards Somaliland in a desperate attempt to undermine Riyaale next visit to the US.

In a more serious note, by deliberately tribalizing the issue, Yey is setting off a dangerous precedent, which in turn will make impossible any attempt of nation building in Somalia. Indeed, YeY is talking about Lascanood in terms of a clan overtaking another one territory, despite all the facts pointing to the contrary, how one can justify the presence of Puntland troops in places like Guriceel, Kismaayo, Jowhar and Mogadishu? How can YEY claim to rule Mogadishu and deny Somaliland administration to take hold on Lascanood?

ll Lascanoders and Abdillahi Yusuf know that Lascanood is infinitely better off today than it was three months ago. Law and order are improving, solid municipal, judicial and police instutitions have been built, and NGO are flocking to Sool at a time where there quitting all TFG administered regions. Thanks to the initiatives of Sool political and military elites, the region has been rescued from the chaos engulfing Puntland, be it human trafficking, piracy, hostage takings and daily bombings.

But true to his nature and past, Abdillahi Yusuf is trying to sabotage anything that represent a threat to its dictatorial rule. Even if it amounts to destroying the newly found stability of Lascanooder. Exactly how destroying Puntland peace did not matter when the democratically defeated Yey used all means necessary to hang on to power in the late 90.
Bottom line, it appears that Yey is ready to enflame the whole region to save his power. We, Lascanoders Abroad, wish to tell him: not in our names.

For Lascanoders Abroad,
Mohamed Sougal
www.soolsomaliland.blogspot.com

Press release: Lascanoders Abroad warns of increased Siadist activity in the wake of Riyaale US visit

Press release: Lascanoders Abroad warns of increased Siadist activity in the wake of Riyaale US visit

Following the preannouncement of President Riyaale incoming visit in the Unites States, Lascanoders Abroad has learned, through some of its members, that Anti-Somaliland groups in the US began to mobilize. Indeed, two members of Lascanoders Abroad respectively based in Columbus , Ohio and Minneapolis , Minnesota , have been contacted by telephone and asked to join early preparations for Anti Somaliland rally to be held in the US . Although Siadists groups do not know the exact itinerary of President Riyaale, it appears, following our sources, that a massive Anti Somaliland protest is tentatively planned for Saturday January, 5th, 2008 in Washington DC . Transportations have already been arranged for Columbus and Minneapolis areas protesters.
Siadist groups are on their last throat and desperate to thwart the Somaliland increasingly successful march to recognition. They understand better that anyone the significance of next week visit, the first time a Somaliland official has been invited by US officials. They also understand and fear the possibility for the US to act unilaterally. Already, Siadist groups are sending petitions to Deputy Assistant Secretary, James Swan (the man in charge of Horn Africa inside the State Department Bureau of African Affairs)

Lascanoders Abroad call on all fellow Somalilanders, especially those living in Virginia and Maryland , to start planning for counter demonstrations in Washington , DC . After months of chest beating and bellicose promises to bring back Laaska into Puntland fold come hell or high water, Cadde Muse admitted finally what everybody knew: there was a secret agreement between Puntland and Somaliland conceding to the latter full administrative and political over the entire Sool region. This groundbreaking revelation created a political upheaval inside the Puntland parliament with several MP openly calling for the president resignation for what they perceived as national treason. Certainly, one can understand Pro-Puntland Lascanooders confusion and outrage over Cadde confession and his rather convoluted responses. After all, they have been taken for a ride since in retrospect the so-called military exercises to recapture Lascanood were merely deceptive posturing. But in all fairness Cadde Musse gave plenty of time to the naïve and gullible Pro Puntland Lascanooders in order to fully understand that his administration did not include the SSC region. For the record, let’s revisit some of these earlier signs.
- 1- Upon Abdillahi Yusuf resignation from Puntland presidency in July 2004, Cadde Musse went on to the record by claiming that SSC citizen Abdi Hassi was not entitled to lead Puntland because “he hailed from a peripheral region”. Then, Cadde threatened to take up arms if Hashi was allowed to even add one day to Yusuf presidential term even if the regional government was at the time in a state of military stalemate with Somaliland over Lascanood. The culmination of these clannish pressures ultimately led to Abdi Hashi humaliateling defeat in January 2005.
- 2- Cadde Muse failed to go to Lascanood to pay a decent tribute to the late beloved SSC Garaad Abdi Qani upon his in 2006, ostensibly citing urgent meetings with Abdillahi Yusuf in Mogadishu. Even if a mere couple of months earlier, all Sool Garaads respectfully attended the deceased Islaan burial in Garowe. And to add insult to injury, Puntland VP, Lascanooder Afqudhac, was prevented to attend Garaad Qani burial whereas all elders from Burco to Erigavo respectfully convened in Lascanood. My fellow Lascanooders did not forget this utmost humiliation and the subsequent visit of Adde was met with fierce popular uprising.
- 3- Cadde Muse failed to stand up for SSC people human rights when two of my fellow Lascanooders were killed unarmed and shackled inside a Garowe jail. This unprecedented act of savagery went completely unpunished and was a command of Hassan Abshir (a would be Puntland president). Indeed, once he learned that one of his clansmen were allegedly killed by two SSC officers, Mr Abshir came from Mogadishu in order to teach Lascanooders “ to live in dread fear of the noble men of Garowe”. We know the rest. And worse of all, this abominable was enacted when Sool Garaad were precisely in Garowe following the Garowe Islaan . The Somali adage Nimaad kabihiisa tolaysaa kafantaada tolaya could not find a better illustration. Ironically enough, in an unrelated event, the ers of a SSC officer were by freed force from the same Garowe jail by Hassan Abshir clansmen a few months later. Talk about a shameful double standard. The message sent wouldn’t be clearer: the life of SSC citizen is not worth much in Garowe.
- 4- After the y fight in Addi Caddey in October 2004, Cadde Muse commander in chief, colonel Caddhays, without consulting any SSC elder, decided to put an end to the military standoff with Somaliland. And in an uncalled form act of contempt, Cadhays went to say that no SSC land is worth fighting for.
5- Cadde Musse systematically maintained a strict discrimination against SSC officers inside the military. No SSC man was allowed to have full authority on any given brigade as Lascanooders were routinely cantoned to deputy commander positions. SSC officers had their loyalty constantly questioned and their military actions symmetrically denied. Case in point, during the last Puntland military blowout, only two officers, both from SSC, distinguished themselves on the filed: General Saciid Shoodhe and Coloned Jaamac Yare. In reward, Cadde Musse put the blame of Lascanood defeat squarely on Shoodhe shoulders who was subsequently removed from any leadership position and transferred to Garowe. Meanwhile, Jaamac Yare, who was until recently viewed as the most able to take on Puntland military leadership, was unexpectedly removed from the new Puntland military hierarchy put forward by Cadde Musse earlier this month. Therefore, it is not surprising that another mythical SSC officer, Yusuf Quuje, chose to abandon the apartheid minded Puntland army and to add his contribution to the development of his hometown Lascanood.

Undoubtedly, Cadde Musse give SSC people numerous heads up when it comes to his views on Puntland composition. What he said yesterday inside Puntland parliament is hardly a surprise. As the old Somali adage, doqonto adkeega ku dhufo hadii kalee iyada ku dhufo, and indeed for too long, Pro Puntland Lascanooders have chosen to remain deaf and dumb in the face of mounting evidences. The only reason adde Muuse let the charade “Lascanood is part of Puntland” go unchecked is that he needed to sell out Sool natural resources to foreign interest. If Cadde Muuse can today afford a multimillion house in Dubai, and if Garowe can today aspire to become the Dubai of East Africa (Cadde own words), it is clearly because the hefty upfront payment from Range resources has been used to that effects. There was a time in my childhood when trucks traveling the Lascanood- Galcayo corridor did not stop in Garowe because the Nugaal capital region was deemed too small. Before leaving Laaska, children were frequently asked to visit the washrooms because the next stop would be Galkayo.
Mohamed Sougal
www.soolsomaliland.blogspot.com

Lascanood, a month later

Lascanood, a month later

A month has passed since Laaska was freed from Puntland occupation forces on October 16, 2007. And following today events, Somaliland national army have successfully cleaned Sool from all Puntland militia remnants. Although Lascanood had been free too short a time to see its achievements fairy assessed, we can however see if my hometown is finally heading in the right direction.

The first few days were undoubtedly hard; first the school closures decided by governor Sandulle in order to protect schoolchildren had the reverse effect to spill scores of disaffected young men into the streets. Businesses therefore, too scared to proceed, were effectively shut down, putting the entire economic activity to a standstill. Meanwhile, the constant bellicose propaganda of RadioGarowe was particularly remarkable in driving elders and women from the city. Day in and day out, Puntland media drove up the chest beating rhetoric, promising a victorious return of their ragtag militia. Even if Lascanood freedom fighters and Somaliland forces have nothing to fear from those who ran faster that the legendary Abdi Bille less that a month ago, the relentless and unchallenged clan based hatred spewing often hit a nerve among the vulnerable population and cemented an atmosphere of simmering tension.

A month after, the situation is noticeably better. Businesses have reopened, Lascanood main road has been cleared and the trade route to Aynabo and Burco is back to its normal volume.
The security situation is the best it has been in years. All this was achieved despite the frequent attempts of Puntland to stir up trouble:

First, women and teenagers had been encouraged to set up roadblocks and to use weapons without the necessary knowledge. Sool famous website Afnugaal.com was recently reporting how Lascanood women and children have been dubbed Puntland first battalion (Gutaada Kowaad) by a bunch of hate driven expatriates. This real act of utmost cowardice is unfortunately not surprising coming from the very same Puntland army too much accustomed to killing innocent armed civilians in Lascanood. On a deeper level, by encouraging this reckless behavior, the Puntland leadership that repudiated Xaabsade for mediating between warring factions in Buhoodle, is showing once again its tota; contempt for SSC security situation.

Secondly, Puntland is trying to hijack the elders meeting in Boocame and making a mockery of this critical reunion for the SSC community. Unable to confront Somaliland militarily, Puntland is transforming what was supposed to be a traditional meeting, into a tug of war with Somaliland. False reports have filled by RadioGarowe reporting alleged attempts by Somaliland to prevent elders from reaching Boocame. Others elders were shamefully briefed in Garowe and asked to call for an immediate and all out clan war in Lascanood. And in contravention of Garaad Jamaac formal request to prevent further clashes in Sool, Puntland militia set up a military build up in Tuko-Raq mainly aimed at disrupting the serene atmosphere of the Boocame meeting.

On the political front, Puntland continues to misrepresent the unfolding of events in Lascanood. First, the farcical Adde Musse took to the airwaves with often contradictory messages. According to comical Adde, one day Lascanood was attacked by Asmara, the next day Dirta Waqooyi (whatever it might mean) were to blame. In his latest interview, Adde Musse once again reversed position and contended that Somaliland could not set foot in Lascanood (whatever it might mean) and that Puntland was chased away by disgruntled local militia. On the same topic, the ineffable president of Puntland Parliament was recently arguing that his army defeat in Lascanood was finally a good thing because it would allow his forces to go as far as Hargeisa and Burco and bring Somaliland back into Somalia federal system. Coming from a man who had to flee Garowe and seek refuge into Eastern Sanaag because Adde Musse militia were performing a routine clan cleansing, I am sure that this will send shivers up Somaliland forces spines.

Compared to this reckless and laughable sabre rattling coming from Garowe, I must confess that I am proud of the way Sool political intelligentsia is handling the situation. All the would-be child soldiers used by Garowe in its absurd proxy war have been taken off the streets and are back on school benches; those wounded by their unknowledgeable manning of guns received a prompt medical treatment and governor Ali Sandulle made a point of personally contacting the families of all the teenagers involved in recent incidents. In a notoriously violent city, the governor, with the help of Somaliland national forces, has taken successful steps towards building an effective and professional municipal police. In other developpements, governor Sandulle is skillfully working on expanding Somaliland administration into new regions; as late as yesterday, the governor was convening with elders from Gabadhe and the border town of Tuko-Raq. Meanwhile, Xaasbsade is touring the region, taking steps to avert any conflicts, had received a tremendous welcome in Kalabaydh and Darkengeyo. In his latest twist, Puntland is trying to set up some Sool sub clans against the others, and Xaabsade by playing host to countless elders meetings as he has recently done in Buhoodle is trying to prevent fighting among SSC subclans. Furthermore, his patient work is producing political dividends since the majority of ex Puntland police and municipal civil servants are now backing the new Somaliland built institutions. At the same time Colonel Dhakool is working from Buhoodle and succeeded in spearheading Somaliland efforts towards Lascanood refugees. Recent reports confirm that the majority of them already returned home.

On a more political front, Fuad Adde Cadde went from Xuddur to Taleex leading a need assessment team. Bashe was from and center in the mission headed by Siciid Sulub and reccuring rumors are sending him into the presidency of Somaliland House of Representatives or Senate. Finally I was heartened to see Qaybe, using his tremendous experience and knowledge, outlining a course of action for the future of my province. SSC chief political statesman repeatedly berated Puntland for once again playing the tribal card and similarly disparaged Siadists wild card by insisting on the fact that Lascanood was effectively ruled by locals for the benefit of the local population. In his address Qaybe invited Somaliland politicians not to take lightly the frequent efforts by Puntland to tribalize the events and to talk about a clan based land grab. According to Qaybe, in some cases, time will needed to overcome suspicion among locals overflowed by this tribal propaganda.

Finally, stars are aligning and Sool political heavy weigh are pulling in the same direction. After five years of neglect, Laasconood is a devastated city, inextricably associated with violence. No running water, no hospital, no roads, few crumbling schools. When every Somaliland district can boast of their university, Lascanood is left with no postsecondary education. Recovery will not be an easy task and drawing on the concerted efforts of all Sool leaders is the avenue for Laascanood.

Mohamed Sougal
mohamedsougal@yahoo.com
www.soolsomaliland.com

What next in Lascanood? A final note

I always rejoice in political debates specially when they are related to my hometown. But sadly, I cannot enjoy the one I am having with Mohsin Mahad because my debater chose to engage in personal attack. Mahad contends, obviously without any shred of evidence, that I am an imposter, suggesting therefore that I do not hail from Lascanood.

I must confess that, while saddened, I was not entirely surprised by this line of attack coming from a Siadist. Indeed, the crux of thought of all Siadists is that no way two different Somali cannot enter into political compromise no matter its nature. By this token, Mohsin simply, cannot understand, that anyone, beside the Isaaq majority, could go along with the politically successful project called Somaliland. If Awdalites are enthusiastically supporting Somaliland, according to Mohsin, they are simply waiting for better days and for the resurrection of Somalia (whatever it might mean). If Lascanooders decide to work with fellow Somalilanders, they are obviously traitors to their clan.

If several Somali clans cannot enter into political compromise, how can Siadists like Mohsin want to broaden the meager appeal of their beloved TFG. How can any Somali nation exist? Nation building means engaging different clans and that exactly what Somaliland did. Different clans came together and decided to work together. A clan can work with other clan without being subjected or abused. And that what a Siadist closed up mind cannot understand. That why they all Siadists keep saying that Awdal is abused and yet the majority of them never set foot on Awdal. Simply because your master Siad only knew how to set up clans against each other does not mean that other political way cannot exit.

Dear Mohsin, Ethiopian will not be for ever policing Mogadishu; your TFG masters should exactly follow into Somaliland footsteps and engage politically all clans. Building is always more difficult that destroying, and I understand the frustation of Siadists that cannot put two sticks together when they see Somaliland political achievements.

On a final note, Mohsin, I will do like you and bore the reader with my clan lineage. I am from Lascanood and I am not a guest in Somaliland. My ancestors have fought for this nation in Jidbaale and Beerdhiga against a ous mad Mullah. Thousand of my fellow Lascanooders have been killed in these epic battles. My ancestors have fought against the union when the majority of Somalilanders approved Somaliweyn. And the fought again in 1988 when I was time to reclaim freedom. I undertand that this mix is difficult to understand for a clan burdened Siadist mind. But there you have it.

Mohamed Sougal
mohamedsougal@yahoo.com
www.soolsomaliland.blogspot.com

What is next in Laascanood? A response

What is next in Laascanood? A response

Somaliland national army recent victory over Puntland militia gave Siadists one more opportunity to display their delusional take on Laascaanood. If you read Muhsin Mahad piece, you cannot help but be both amazed and disappointed by the extent Siadists remnants exploit local situations to settle old scores. Case in point, instead of talking of Laascanood current situation, Mr Mahad opens his piece by revisiting Somaliland liberation history and emphatically concludes only USC was instrumental in Siad Barre demise while “SNM was …nothing more to the Siyad Regime than irritating pinpricks.” Besides its obvious irrelevancy, this laughable claim owes noting to historical correctness. If SNM was such a weak movement, why did Siad felt the need to call in South African mercenaries? And why did it take Aideed a mere two month to overthrow Siad dictatorship if the mighty Somali army was not destroyed in the North? Renewed discussion of past events generally are of limited value to solve current problems, but if someone is keenly interested in 1988-1990 military campaigns in Somaliland, he should refer, among other documents, to the thorough and non partisan account produced by Canada after the killing of a Somali boy by Canadian troops. The Report of the Somalia Commission of inquiry makes no mention of “SNM killing unarmed and defenceless non-Isaaq civilians” so central to Muhsin and Siadists mythology. Instead the report contends that Siad ”unable to defeat the guerrillas, the army killed tens of thousands of civilians in northern towns”. Numerous others evidencecould be quoted but this source have the added convenience of sitting right on my shelves.

Muhsin Mahad opening statement about Siad Barre fall set the stage for equally deceptive comments on Laascanood. Indeed, the author repeatedly tries to convey the idea that recent developments in Laascanood account to no more than a simple invasion of a clan by another one .Wording this effect is therefore obsessive with the word invasion used 12 times and clan receiving 11 mentions. However, repeating over and over a lie will had never made it true and Muhsin elucubrations are simply reflecting a deep disappointement following the swift defeat of what he used to call ”Puntland gallant forces.” (the relatives of those killed by this militia in Cagare or inside jails are still looking for any subtle sign of galantery).

In order to set the record straight, I would have to restate the obvious for everyone. Contrary to Siadists assertions, Laascanood has never been a hotbed of support for Puntland since Laascanooders for the best part of the last decade have been divided among Puntland and Somaliland supporters, some over them (including several proeminent political) shifting allegiances. This said, as a Laascanood native deeply interested in his hometown political plight, I find offensive when Siadists like Muhsin suggest otherwise when there is absolutely no element of truth to their assertions. Indeed, there is a considerable duplicity in Muhsin Mahad charade about clan invasion. Without rehearsing at length the list of Puntland abuses again Laascanood, it is a common knowledge among fellow Lascanooders that the crux of the matter is that we finally became tired of holding the bag. In the face of, the full fledge exploitation of their region (Holl Holl resources sold of and proceeds helping build an airport in Garowe), the imperatives created by extrajudicial killings, the multiples humiliations and the general state of their hometown, more and more Laascanooders began gradually looking towards Somaliland. Then the final impetus to the last week liberation came when Puntland militia killed two unarmed civilians and susquently opened fire on Xaabsade house. And Lascanood decided, in both its civilian and military component, to get rid of the occupier too busy stealing its resources and buying million dollar houses in Dubai. Siadists can claim clan invasion but people in the ground are well aware of the above reality.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. The like of Muhsin will be hard pressed to convince Laascanooders when Puntland is professing more hostiliy and contempt towards them. Indeed, Garowe is cashing in the plight of our refugees. Puntland prevented any Lascanood from entering in Garowe while at the same time appealing for international help in order to alleviate its supposed burden. At the same time, Somaliland is coping with refugees in Buhoodle with virtually no international assistance and, at the same time, decided to create a new national tax to help Lascanood. And When Radio Garowe is busy scarring off people by announcing imminent attacks, Somaliland forces are helping locals opening up roads and returning to normalcy.

Only Allah knows what tomorrow will look like but Laascaonders, upon which exploitation and abuse have been imposed for years by Puntland, but Laascanooders will not easily relinquish their new found freedom. We remember the time when two young unarmed men were killed with impunity inside a jail when at the very same time all our Garaads were attending the burial of the Islaan in Garowe. The time when Lascanood was governed by vizirs appointed by Garowe is gone, the time where Afqudhac was prohibited from attending his Garaad burial is gone. And for all their shortcomings Xaabsade, Sandulle and the new team charge, should be traded in with the old Puntland puppets.

Mohamed Sougal
mohamedsougal@yahoo.com
www.soolsomaliland.blogspot.com

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://soolsomaliland.blogspot.com/2007/10/what-is-next-in-laascanood-response.html' title='What is next in Laascanood? Laaska was finally free. But sadly, one more time,
Majertenia ragtag tag militia terrorized my birthplace before fleeing.
Two weeks ago, two civilians were killed in the aftermath of their bloody
defeat at the hands of Sool freedom fighters and Somaliland national
army . Today, Garowe militia bullet sprayed Xaabsade house located in a
densely populated area of Lascanood.

My sincere congratulations to the Sool freedom fighters and
Somaliland national army. Also to those who kept the hope alive, Fuad Aden
Cadde, Ali Sandulle, Dhakool, Baashe…

To my fellow Lascanooders, I would like to say that we are all
winners. From now on, our men will not be killed inside Garowe jails and
murderers let free. From now on, our natural resources will not be sold out
to obscure Aussie companies and the proceeds help build Garowe
airport. From now on, taxes will not be collected in Lascanood and devoted to
build Bossaso airstrips. From now on, local NGO operating Lascanood
will not receive confidential notes telling them not to hire Sool
inhabitants. For all the above reasons, we, Lascanooders, are all winners
today.

Dear fellow Lascanooders, liberation, no matter how joyful, should
not obscure the difficult road ahead. Years of Majertenia occupation have
ruined the city and corrupted our soul. For example, Lascanood is the
only Somaliland city were people are roaming the streets with guns and
differences settle sometimes at gunpoint. Schools are crumbling,
hospitals inexistent, once wealthy rural areas vacated. And despite its name which emphasized unity, the United Somali Party USP could not escape from the grip around its neck—the doctrine of tribal loyalty of the ‘60s which still dictates the Somali society. Like any other clan based political party of the ‘60s, the USP was based on a tribal conviction rather than on a national identity; yet it echoed pan-Somalism drums across Somaliland. And surprisingly, 47 years later, another group: Northern Somalis for Peace and Unity NSPU—an offshoot of the USP—echoed yet another questionable unity drums while supporting Abdullahi Yussuf’s quest for tribal hegemony over Somaliland regions, spewing venom towards Somaliland, and receiving funding from foreign spy agencies.

In Somaliland, although many former rivalry tribes of the ‘60s settled their differences, buried their ugly past behind them and formed their own national government, the NSPU, formerly known as USP, remained as ignorant as ever. Oblivious of the facts on the ground, the NSPU without a doubt remained in deep coma. Not only it appeared to be in deep coma, but unlike its sister party USP whose members hailed from Somaliland, the majority of the NSPU cliques including their self-proclaimed “Executive Director”, Gamal Hassan, were born in Somalia, not in Somaliland. (In fact, Mr. Hassan hails from Bosaso, Puntland.)

Worse still, the NSPU spearheaded by Mr. Hassan is far from advocating for Somali unity. Among other reasons, the NSPU is pro-Abudllahi Yussuf’s ambition to achieve a tribal hegemony over Sool and Eastern Sanag of Somaliland. Time and time again, although the NSPU echoes bogus nationalism and pan-Somalism drums, this clique, in fact, favors the creation of tribal fiefdoms in Somaliland. The NSPU resolutely opposes the regions of Sool and Eastern Sanag to remain within the Somaliland parcel. That is, the NSPU chauvinistically supports Abdullahi Yussuf’s notion which very much states: since the people of Puntland share tribal lineages with their “cousins” in Sool and in Eastern Sanag, therefore, these regions must stay within Harti (Majerten, Dhulbahante and Warsangali tribes) tribal kingdom, but not within Somaliland parcel. The NSPU itself states, “…Sanaag, Sool, and Cayn [SSC] have never been within its [Somaliland’s] reach and are firmly in the hands of the State of Puntland…” (1) Also, no one could have done a better job in explaining the NSPU blind allegiance to tribalism and to Abdullahi Yussuf’s mission to change colonial borders into tribal borders than one of its cliques. Amazingly, another NSPU clique, in fact, further sheds new light on what this group is all about as he writes, “Abdalla Hirad and the director of NSPU are from SSC regions as are other members of the team. They also belong to Puntland since SSC is part of it.” (2) [Italics added] Therefore, hiding behind a smoke-screen so as to avoid revealing their real motives, the NSPU cliques fool no one else other than themselves. Keeping the disputed regions within Somaliland—then uniting Somalia and Somaliland is far more logical than dismembering Somaliland on the bases of tribal lineages and at the same time shedding crocodile tears for Somali unity. Clearly, the NSPU cliques are far more loyal to their tribes than to their country.

Without a doubt, the NSPU along with Abdullahi Yussuf make tireless efforts to disintegrate Somaliland into small tribal state. Additionally, despite the number different tribes that call Somaliland home, and despite the fact, Mr. Daahir Riyale Kahin, the democratically elected president of Somaliland hails from Gudabiirsay tribes, still the NSPU labels Somaliland as an Isaqland. However, surprisingly, it [NSPU] doesn’t call Puntland: Majertenland (Majerten—the dominant tribe in Puntland). Nor does the NSPU call Djibouti: Issaland (Issa—the dominant tribe in Djibouti). Isn’t this absurd?

What is even more absurd than the above is the NSPU repeatedly claimed the Somali National Movement SNM coerced the leaders of Sool and Eastern Sanag regions to accept Somaliland independence, in 1991. Is that so? Very unlikely! According to the NSPU, “What happened in Burao cannot … be described as a meeting … the participants were literally coerced into accepting the position of the military wing of the SNM…” (1) [Italics added] Participants who, of course, hailed from Sool and Eastern Sanag regions! Surely, the preceding accusation lacks merit; for one thing, the disputed parts of Sool and Eastern Sanag have been controlled by their local people, not the SNM of the ‘90s. Nor has Somaliland government ever established an effective control in those regions, as NSPU even stated earlier. For another, Graad Saleeban (a tribal chief, and a hard-core supporter of Puntland) who not only hail from Sool region but also participated in the Burao reconciliation meeting did not sign or endorse the Somaliland independence paper. And he is still alive and didn’t get killed by the SNM’s bayonet had he failed to sign the independence paper, as the NSPU contended.

Additionally, there are dozens of MPs who hail from Sool and Eastern Sanag regions in Somaliland parliament. And the government does not hold a gun to their heads and force them to accept Somaliland against their will. These MPs believe that they are in their birth country and its political system—even though it lacks fairness and justice—should be participated in and corrected by their people rather than alienating themselves. Today, some of these MPs and some of their former foes SNM can be found in the opposition parties (KULMIYE and UCID) as well as in the ruling party (UDUB). Isn’t that a miracle? Yet the NSPU, which seems as blind as a bat, does not see this forward push: from clan-based parties to national parties as a progress, but it would rather cling to past events (SNM forces which were dismantled almost two decades ago).

But, while the NSPU still holds grudges against the SNM forces and views the reconciliation process of the 1991 in Burao, Somaliland, as a spectacular hostage-taking operation, surprisingly, the NSPU blindly supports the bogus Somali “reconciliation” meeting—a meeting that ended before it had even begun—in Mogadishu, under the barrels of blazing Ethiopian guns. No way! You bet. The NSPU states, “What you never hear…is …support for the on-going efforts at national reconciliation…” (3) Put another way: the NSPU accuses SNM of forcing the leaders of Sool and Eastern Sanag to sign the Somaliland independence paper in 1991, but today the NSPU is encouraging the same leaders to sign an imaginary reconciliation papers in Mogadishu, under Ethiopia’s—Somalia’s enemy number one—watchful eye. How ironic is that? This is baffling. Talk about hypocrisy!

Meanwhile, the NSPU maintains a small office, in Ottawa. This office serves dual-purpose: it is used as a Qat-house (Mafrish). Then once the Mafrish members consume a huge quantity of Qat (and they all get high, of course), brainstorming begins: barrages of venomous attacks are often unleashed against unwary people of Somaliland. The NSPU cliques, for instance, made desperate attempts to cast aspersions on the dignity of Somaliland leaders. Their hatemongering tactics broke all ethics known to a civilized society when one of the NSPU’s writer wannabes, Abdikarim Ali Xandule, published an “article” entitled, “Somaliland Recognition & Western Gay Activists”. (4) In total disregard towards Islam and Somali culture, he went too far and associated Somaliland leaders with homosexuals. As ignorant as ever, he repeatedly smeared the reputation of Somaliland people. Amazingly, having an innate talent for hurling insults at Somaliland leaders whom he knows nothing about them, Mr. Xandulle honed his skills as stand up hate preacher. However, Mr. Xandulle’s dirty attacks, unknown to the Somali society before, not only against Somaliland leaders but also against individuals like Dr. Abdishakur Jawhar, a well-respected Somaliland psychiatrist and the son of a highly respected Muslim scholar, caught off guard many people. No one, however, thought that the NSPU cliques would sink this low, but as it turned out they respect no bounds.

Their dirty campaign filled with hateful and shameful propaganda has no limits. As a result, their provocative messages send a chill down your spine. Not so long ago, they even put a short hate video together which demonizes sections of Somaliland society. (5) The video portrays Somaliland people as evil, drug addicts, and none-believer worshipers. (See the video for yourself by clicking the link at the bottom.) Ironically, at the same time the clip advocates for Somali unity. Isn’t that something? What a backward mentality?

Much of the NSPU backward message, in fact, incites not only hate but also polarizes the two Somali societies: Somaliland and Somalia. To spur hate among Somalis, the NSPU’s constant filamentary remarks towards Somaliland people continued unabated.

Also, as Somaliland inched closer to recognition, the NSPU seemed flustered. The well-known phobia of Somaliland becoming a sovereign state clouded NSPU’s judgment. Evidently, it made fetish out of Somaliland. And no sooner had the NSPU realized Somaliland was attending the seminar on “Somaliland and the African Union in the Horn of Africa” in Accra, Gana, than the NSPU’s panic alarm went off. Frantically, the NSPU scribbled on scrap pads and fabricated a so-called research paper conducted, of course, in a Mafrish-house in Ottawa. In this paper, the words Isaq, clan, and secessionists were mentioned no less than 231 times. (1) (Do the word-count for yourself.) Usually, almost every paper published by the NSPU is generously sprinkled with worn-out propaganda Isaq, clan, and secessionists —a hail of rubbish—ad nauseam at best, self-destructive and counterproductive as well. However, after you read the NSPU’s paper, you would conclude that certainly the theme was about Isaq, clan, and secessionists. Riddled with fallacious arguments, the NSPU’s “research” paper speaks for itself—venomous diatribes against Somaliland and its people. But does this vomit-worthy clichéd expedite the resurrection of Somali unity? Not in the next 10 million light-years!

To advocate for Somali unity is fine and an opposition to Somaliland’s quest for independence is not a crime either. However, to spew out a load of venom—as in the case of the NSPU—towards Somaliland people is a moral bankruptcy—a paradox to unity efforts. Could the NSPU come up with a better way to further drive a wedge between brotherly people of Somaliland and Somalia while, ironically, at the same time campaigning for Somali unity? This is the conundrum for the NSPU: on one hand, it claims advocating for unity. On the other hand, it has an urge for maliciously attacking Somaliland and constantly spreading disinformation about the country. This pathetic strategy for ill-conceived unity campaign, if anything, lynches the NSPU itself, doesn’t it? One wonders the main objective of the NSPU papers. As it seems though, to the NSPU the word objective remains undefined.

But, while the NSPU’s objective remains undefined its unequivocal loyalty to foreign-imposed Somali regime—of course under false pretences of supporting Mogadishu’s “peace” meeting—remains unquestionable. Nor is there a doubt about its [NSPU] admiration for Ethiopia. As a zealot supporter of the belligerent and hell-bent warlord Abuddlahi Yussuf (a.k.a the butcher of Mogadishu), Mr. Hassan (the Executive Director wannabe of the NSPU) recently published an article entitled, “The naked hypocrisy of TFG bashers”, and he labeled the Islamic Court Union ICU as a terrorist organization financed by foreigners. In his article, he wrote, “The clano-religious bandits were…spreading mayhem long before Ethiopia came to the scene to aid a sister state [Somalia] in thwarting attacks from... well financed, and armed rebellion…directed from abroad.” (3) [Emphasis added]

Excuse my shameful ignorance—enlighten me please! Since when did Ethiopia become the “sister” state of Somalia? If Ethiopia were the “sister” state of Somalia, then Israel would certainly be the “sister” state of Palestine as well. Contrary to popular belief, Ethiopia and Somalia fought since 1280 (6). And recently, a U.N report confirmed Ethiopia used deadly chemicals—White Phosphorus—against Somali civilians in Mogadishu. The report states, “Ethiopian military forces resorted to using white phosphorus bombs … approximately 15…fighters and 35 civilians were killed.” (7) [Italics added]

Worse yet, the Ethiopian regime that the NSPU painted as the “sister” state of Somalia happened to be the same Ethiopia that—in the past two years alone—slaughtered thousands of Somalis, raped thousand of Somali women, burned dozens of Somali villages, and looted the Somalis’ properties both in Somalia and in Ogadenia. Additionally, another report published by Amnesty International detailed the brutality of the Ethiopian regime. As Amnesty International states, “Ethiopia's army had indiscriminately bombarded highly populated areas, targeted and looted hospitals, and summarily executed civilians.” (8)[Italics added] Yet again, this was the Ethiopia that the NSPU and Mr. Hassan called the “sister” state of Somalia. Baffling! Have you ever heard more absurd things than this? Of course not! But Mr. Hassan is not alone in his unequivocal support for Ethiopia. Also, another staunch supporter of Abdullahi Yussuf, named Abdalla Hirad —another NSPU member—vehemently denies that Ethiopia is occupying Somalia. In one of his articles, he states, “… they [I.C.Us] resent the fact that Ethiopia, an old enemy of Somalia, is occupying the country—a false claim, indeed.” (9) [Italics added] Incredible! Clearly, Mr. Hassan and his collogue, Abdalla Hirad, can best be described as worthless national traitors—a fifth column. Yet they shed a river of crocodile tears for Somali unity while they shamelessly support the occupation of Somalia by Ethiopia. Paradoxically, too often, most tribal-minded Somalis as well as least loyal to their country somehow manage to shed more crocodile tears for Somali unity—a unity they would readily sell to Ethiopia—than thunderclouds could spill rains. Surely, painting a rosy picture of Ethiopia’s brutal incursion into Somalia where the nation’s capital, Mogadishu, remains in ruins not only adds insult to injury but also sheds light on the NSPU member’s other activities. Evidently their loyalty to Ethiopia remains unquestionable. But as their loyalty congeals, it soon reveals their true colors.

That is, their hardly known clandestine operations deep inside savagely butchered nation of Somalia, truly summarizes what this coterie is all about. Surprisingly, Ethiopia is not the only regime which they are affiliated to; they are also listed in the payroll of foreign spy agencies. Recently, the NSPU cliques have been awarded a “prestigious” position as one of their members boasted of it. How did it begin? A report published by the Canadian Security Agency accused many Somalis in Canada of supporting the I.C.U— “the ghost terrorists”. (10) However, what many Somalis were not aware of was much of the data, including the names of the suspects, their profession, their e-mails, their tribes, their political affiliations as well as their regions of origin in Somalia were provided by none other than the NSPU ring. Furthermore, shortly before the collapse of the I.C.U, two unidentified members of the NSPU flew to Mogadishu not to rescue the fallen city but to identify as many of its Somali-Canadians residents who were later falsified as “Al-Qaeda” sympathizers. And no sooner had the two liaisons landed in Mogadishu, than many Somali-Canadians faced grim reality of betrayal by their fellow Somalis.

Meanwhile, far away from Mogadishu, here in Ottawa, because of the NSPU informers in the Somalia Diasporas, hundreds of Somali-Canadians who resolutely opposed a foreign-imposed Somali regime, which has been parachuted into their country by foreign powers, were classified as Al-Qaeda supporter. As a result, the Canadian Security Agencies launched massive, perhaps warrantless, secret wiretaps and searches targeted against Somali community. Furthermore, it was no secret either way before the Mogadishu war crimes began members of the NSPU received salaries from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service CSIS. Some members also worked as paid informants for the local Canadian police. And I bet you they still do.

Moreover, currently, it is also a well-known fact the NSPU pays weakly visits to the Ethiopian embassy, and provides bits and piece of information to the Ethiopians. Also, back in Mogadishu, many of the Somali-Canadians—including a seven-month old baby (11)—ended up in the Ethiopian torture chambers—the Guantanamo Bay of Africa—where the lucky ones paid a fortune, $5000 ransom per person, for their freedom. Thanks to the betrayal of the NSPU. Yet, while the NSPU spied on unwary innocent Somalis, so insidiously, it laid another trap—a deceptive cobweb—disguised as unity. And despite the NSPU’s hollow mantra of Somali nationalism, evidently the NSPU secretly collaborates with Ethiopia. Clearly the NSPU’s action contradicts its nationalism rhetoric. So much for its fake lip-services to unity, undoubtedly, the NSPU is nothing more than a clandestine group on the payroll of foreign spy agencies.

To sum up, clearly, there is more to the NSPU rants than meets the eye. And unity does not come as easy as the NSPU wishes. Surely, also unity won’t be achieved while groups like the NSPU are so deeply aligned with Abdullhai Yussuf’s mission for greater tribal fiefdom, but not for greater Somalia. Nor will unity be achieved while Somaliland people constantly being attacked, smeared and demonized by cliques of hate-mongers like the NSPU group. And unleashing preemptive barrages of defamatory remarks and vicious attacks towards Somalilanders are not popularity contests, but they are counter-productive, unethical and immoral. Additionally, whether the NSPU cliques like it or not, Ethiopia has never been the “sister” state of Somalia and will never be one either (sorry to burst your bubble). Words cannot convey how much painting Ethiopia as the “sister” of Somalia has infuriated the Somali people in general and in particular the family members of the victims whom Ethiopia butchered in Mogadishu—in their backyards. Furthermore, for now, the NSPU may enjoy the cash it receives from foreign organizations, however; it should be aware the interests of foreign spay agencies in the Somali community here in Canada may fade away soon like the scent of cheap clones, but the Somali-Canadians are here to stay. Also, as history will attest the occupation of Somalia—where the land mourns and the oceans rage with anger—will run its course. And the wounded national pride of the nomads will bounce back.

The author can be reached at curi2008@hotmail.com

Reference:

1. type='text'>Somalia: TFG vs. Somaliland Showdown in Disputed Sool

Somalia: TFG vs. Somaliland Showdown in Disputed Sool

In early 2005, as soon as Abdullahi Yussuf was parachuted into the presidential seat in Baidabo, Somalia, defeating the Islamic Court Union ICU and warlords in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, seemed to be in his priority. However, the Mogadishu battle was just a smokescreen to hide his real motive. The ultimate fight! From the get go, a showdown between the Transitional "Federal" Government of Somalia TFG and Somaliland seemed inevitable. And no sooner has Mr. Yussuf barely quelled his opponents in Mogadishu, of course while he hid behind the Ethiopian tanks, than he has daringly attempted to expand his authority into Somaliland territory. No time wasted! But who is going to fight for him this time?

Recently, Mr. Yussuf not only opened an immigration office which would soon issue Somali passports and traveling documents to travelers, in Laasannod (the provincial capital of the disputed Sool region, in Somaliland), but he also sent thousands of the TFG troops stationed in central Somalia to Sool in order to test Somaliland’s strength. As a result, although rarely reported by the media, a showdown between Somaliland and the TFG troops has been looming on the horizon for past few months. So as the battle fields grow so are the minefields. Thousands of troops from both sides with their deadly weapons flooded the region. An interview with widhwidhonline radio (a pro-TFG radio), a Puntland frontline commander even confirmed the TFG forces have been fighting along Puntland’s in Sool region. The commander states, "The Darawhish (Puntland militias) and the TFG forces are battling against Somaliland troops." Also, according to radiowidhwidh, "Heavily armed TFG forces from the central regions of Somalia have been pouring into the battle fields in Sool and fighting against Somaliland troops." Furthermore, wardheernews website also reported the influx of the TFG troops pouring into Sool region. Additionally, a Puntland website reports, "The fight between Somaliland and Puntland troops has been the heaviest yet." What is going on? If Puntland forces were supposedly spread throughout Southern Somalia to protect Mr.Yussuf "a former warlord of Puntland and now the president wannabe of Somalia"then the mind-boggling question is: where did these new and heavily armed troops come from?

During the Mogadishu massacre in which over 2000 citizens were slaughtered by the brutal Ethiopian troops, Gen. Adde Musse, the current president of Puntland, signed an agreement with Mr. Yussuf in the battered capital. And despite the chaos and mass civilian {blocked}ings in the city, for Abdullahi Yussuf and for Gen. Adde Musse (cousins of shame) it was business as usual. Nothing to worry about! In this agreement, the entire Puntland forces would operate under the TFG's scrutiny, but if need be these forces would be deployed to the battle fields in the disputed regions of Sool and Eastern Sanag.

So, in April, 2007 when Somaliland and Puntland forces were locked into a deadly battle for control of Dhahar, a small town in Eastern Sanag region, the Prime Minster of Somalia, Mr. Geedi, quickly flew to Bossaso, the capital of Puntland, and not only expressed his unequivocal support for Puntland but also, as reinforcement, he deployed a fresh batch of the TFG troops from Mogadishu to Puntland. And once again, in light of Sool crisis, the TFG deployed thousands of heavily armed forces to another prone-conflict area—Laasanod, the provincial capital of Sool. So in essence, the TFG and Puntland forces are one and the same. These forces are led by Mr. Yussuf who, in the first place, invaded Sool region in 2003, and Gen. Adde Musse who is now left to carry the legacy of Mr. Yussuf. Surely enough, these forces received much needed training and weapons, so war will inevitably engulf the region soon.

Much of the training provided for Puntland militias disguised as the new Somali National Army SNA was based on clan loyalty. In the heat of battle and clan politics loyalty is crucial, so is the U.S. support. Since the ill-conceived U.S. sponsored plan to lift the UN arms embargo imposed on Somalia succeeded, the new SNA (predominantly former Puntland militias) received lots of weapons from Ethiopia, Yemen and other players. Having much needed logistics, i.e. superior military machines and the backing of International funding, these heavily equipped but barley disciplined and remotely motivated SNA or TFG forces finally gained some confidence to attack Somaliland forces which they previously considered a formidable army.

On the other hand, Somaliland has had its arms tied behind its back. The arms embargo is still imposed on it, however; it luckily lost few soldiers for the past 17 years, and its field commanders are mainly from former SNA forces of during Gen. Siad Barre’s era. (By the way, the rest of the former SNA commanders in Mogadishu were assassinated one by one before the invasion of Ethiopia. No wonders there!) Without a doubt, the Somaliland Army is highly disciplined and well trained. Not to mention, the army maintains a high moral standards consistently. But the unfair arms embargo against Somaliland as well as the absence of millions of dollars from the so-called International community would compel the troops to fight their hands tied behind their back. Nonetheless, make no mistake—as history attests, they would pose to be a formidable army. Now another question comes to mind: who instigated the latest fight in Sool?

Though the latest flare-up in Sool was the result of two opposing local militias from Sool region as reported by the BBC, nonetheless, Puntland and TFG regimes sought this conflict as an opportunity to distort the reality on the ground and to test Somaliland’s defense capability. As part of Mr. Yussuf and Gen. Adde Musse’s grand strategy, while the Ethiopian forces quell the upraising against the TFG and the occupation itself, the TFG forces would continue provoking Somaliland, at the same time the terrorist card would be played exhaustively to draw the attention of gullible Americans.

Shamelessly, the TFG and Puntland have over-played the terrorist card. (Surely, by now George Bush is saying, “Hell with your terrorist crap, it never works”). During the battled between Somaliland and Puntland forces, in Dhahar, Eastren Sanag, Mr. Geedi, while in Bosaso, accused Somaliland of harboring terrorists and attacking Puntland. He states, "The conflict in Dhahar is the work of the terrorists"the Islamic Court Union and Somaliland forces who want to destabilize Puntland and the TFG." As part of his rescue efforts, Mr. Geedi is once again in Puntland to prop up support for the war in Sool region where he is expected to spit out nails and label Somaliland as a safe heaven for terrorists. Maybe out of either pure frustration or sheer ignorance, Mr. Geedi " a die-hard Ethiopian stooge" reflexively tantamount everything, including bird droppings, to an act of terrorism.

Also, in these latest fights, Puntland quickly accused the Somali Liberation group—whom both the TFG and the Puntland authorities consider a terrorist group "formed in Eritrea and Somaliland of attacking Sool region. Ever wonder if the TFG"Puntland quisling leaders would give up their terrorist crap? It is all about: terrorists! terrorists! terrorists! But no vision! Sadly enough, with their spectacular belly-dances they shamelessly continue entertaining the U.S. and voluntarily keep recycling its regurgitated vomit-worthy propaganda of war on ghost terrorists.

Finally, despite enjoying the International backing, the TFG is obviously committing suicide by attacking Somaliland. But Hargaisa (Somaliland capital) won’t give up an inch of its territory, nor will it budge on its quest for International recognition.

Paradoxically, in its efforts to promote democracy and to fight against terrorism, the International community inadvertently continues to destabilize Somaliland not only for withholding its recognition but also by providing arms and resources to the TFG.

Clearly, the majority of the TFG forces are former Puntland militias because Gen. Adde himself singed an agreement, which placed the entire Puntland militias under the TFG's command, with Mr. Yussuf. Now these combined forces (former Puntland militias and TFG's non-Puntland forces) are used as a bulwark against Somaliland forces. So, it does not require a rocket scientist to figure out the thousands of heavily armed forces from the central region of Somalia that have been pouring into Sool region, as reported by various sources, belong to the TFG. Undoubtedly, the presence of the TFG troops in Sool and opening an immigration office in Laasanod confirms the TFG ultimate goal—creating chaos in Somaliland.

Interestingly enough, no immigration offices has been opened in Bossaso or in Garowe (major Putland cities), but opening one in the heart of a conflict-prone area like Laasanod seemed more appealing to the TFG. That is, provoking and destabilizing Somaliland is in the TFG’s top priority list.

As for Mr. Geedi's poorly rehearsed terrorism propaganda, from the start, he voluntarily jumped on the bandwagon of war on imagined "terrorists" (but he evidently landed on the wrong side) and desperately attempted to ingratiate with the U.S. He constantly screams so loud and shrill, the typical crying wolf. But his pathetic transparent lies and shameless fear-mongering tactics now made him more of a nuisance than an alliance.

By Dalmar Kaahin
dalmar_k@yahoo.com

Trivializing the Burco conference

Trivializing the Burco conference

First I would like to thank brother Abdullah for his spirited, humorous and civilized rebuttal. In the face of the never ending name calling and cheap shot scoring abundantly found in Somali websites, Abdullah take on the issue ought to be commended in this regard.

I concur with Abdullah when he says that he would prefer the debate on secession to remain at a more national level; however I chose to run the risk of being redundant to the reader and revisit the issue because the twisted account of the events that have taken place in Burco remain surprisingly the core arguments of all Siadists. To this day, they examine at will this conference, constantly rehearsing great fallacies despite their contentions being time and again roundly refuted. For example, in order to dispel the legitimacy of Somaliland independance, as recently as last month, Professor Abdi Samatar was referring to his research purportedly showing indeed that people were threatened INSIDE the conference by armed SNM members. In this regard, from the highly insightful account of Abdullah, it appears that the Siadist theory of people held at gunpoint by SNM members is sustained neither by media reports nor by participant testimonies.

However there is another reason why it is of prime importance to correctly represent both the process that led up to this conference and its fallout; Burco conference remain the only successful peace gathering in Somalia and the catalyst of Somaliland’s subsequent nation building and democratization in the very region of the biggest genocide in Somalia. However even after witnessing dozens of Somali reconciliation meeting failures, Siadists chose to set themselves against the legitimacy of Burco conference with questionable assertions instead of learning from this process. Haunted by the very evil they want to dismantle, Siadists, continue to claim that the conference saw one clan overtook the others while all reports on the ground hailed the discussion as consensual. And in this regard, Abdullah’s misleading rebuttal does not hold up to analysis and is totally unworthy of the historical importance of the Burco conference.

First, Abdullah’s reading of the conference is somewhat marred by his political stance against secession when he implies that Garaad Abdi Qani was afraid to oppose Somaliland’s independence declaration against the backdrop of the threat of a well-armed militia. During the conference, people have come on both side of the issue and second guessing and questioning the motives of each participant can only enable endless speculations. Abdullah’s highly speculative contention, variation of the nonsense Siadist gunpoint theory, trades on the assumption of a vengeful and all powerful SNM militia, hell bent on separating the country and ready to kill anybody opposing it. However, history teaches otherwise since Sool and Eastern Sanaag were already reaping the benefit of the peace deal signed between Mujahid Kahin and Garaad Abdi Qani. SNM clearly had the might to commit atrocities but fortunately it made clear that no Somalilander would be harmed regardless of the past allegiance, and in this regard, the smooth transfer of the besieged former governmental forces from Borama and Berbera to the South helped soothe jittery population. Unlike Mogadishu and Mudug, it is only fair to admit that no massive retaliation or tribal warfare ever happened in Somaliland after the collapse of Siad Barre dictatorship. And needless to say, no military reprisal was committed when parcel sof SSC began to look toward Mogadishu.

Secondly, Abdullah is right to advocate the right for Sool and Sanaag to renege on any agreements some of their leaders might have entered into with the SNM in the Burao conference regardless of whether those leaders did that under duress or not. Sure Garaad Abdi Qani has every right to turn to Mogadishu, after all Somaliland’s first president ended up serving Aideed junior. But the great fallacy conveyed by Siadists is that SSC was a hotbed of principled Somali unionism, and therefore opposed unanimously and from the beginning Somaliland separation. Nothing could be further from the truth and for example, Garaad Abdi Qani only began to voice his opposition to Somaliland when he entered in a power struggle with the late Egal; the Garaad never accepted that his protégé, Xaabsade, was sacked and replaced without him being in the know. As for Professor Galaydh, he shifted allegiance years later after trying to be elected president at the meeting that ultimately crowned Egal.

In conclusion, SSC is a region where divided loyalty, changing allegiance and political opportunism are the political norm. When president Rayaale was ambushed in Lascanood in 2002, then Somaliland commander in chief for Sool is today in the Puntland camp. And the mastermind of the attack against Rayaale has since settled in Hargeisa. Siadists should not therefore put too much weight on individual political stances in this region and focus on other ways to convince Somalilanders to come back to the fold.

Haboon Ali
haboon_ali@hotmail.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

© 2007 Awdalnews Network
Views expressed in the opinion articles are solely those of the authors
and do not necessarily represent those of the editorial.

Somaliland army closing in Lascanood

War deg deg ah: Ciidamo loogu tababarayo Somaliland deegaanka kalabaydh ee duleedka magaalada laascaanood.

War dag dag ah oo shabakada allmudug ka soo gaaray magaalada laascaanood ayaa sheegaya in magaalada kalabaydh ee duleedka magaalada laascaanood uu tababar uga socdo ciidamo xoogan oo uu leeyahay maamulka dirta waqooyi iyadoo ciidamadaasi ay ka soo jeedaal hal beel ah oo kamida beelaha daga Gobolka sool.
For those unfamiliar with the Sougal-Siadist debate in Awdalnews, let me summarize Sougal contentions:

The majority of NSPU members do not hail from Somaliland
Sool and Sanaag were properly represented during Burco conference
Major politicians from Sool and Sanaag major did belong to SNM, did attend the Burco conference and were subsequently part of Somaliland administration. Remember, pretending falsely that what they call SSC was completely and from the start totally devoted to Somali unity is a major rally cry of Siadist.
Nobody was held at gunpoint during Burco conference.
In regards to these points, Ali H. Abdulla rebuttal is coming in decisively weak. He does not dispute any of them. His only contention refers to Qaybe presence and to the number of Garaad in attendance.

A Chinese proverb states that when the wise points to the moon, the idiot looks at the tip of the finger. The central question is the degree of involvement of senior Lascanooders in the Burao conference and the early days of Somaliland. Even if Qaybe was not present in Burao (which fact we cannot verify since the conference was a long one and people used to come in and come out), it is clear that Qaybe and other senior Lascanooders were no die-hard Somali unionists. They went on to take on prestigious political seats in Somaliland. When NSPU is trying to convey that SSC was monothilically opposed to secession, they are hit hard by crude facts.

According to me, a meaningful rebuttal should address the following questions:

Were Sool and Sanaag delegation truly representative of the political will of this region ? If Qaybe was absent, a lot of others Lascanood politicians like Galayr and Garaad Gani were present, why they should not be considered as legitimate voice for SSC ?
Did any participant of the conference EVER complain of being held at gunpoint ?
When Sougal is asking why SSC representatives did not take refuge into Puntland if they felt threatened by SNM, Abdullah is answering that Puntland did no exist at that time. Of course, Puntland, in terms of political entity, came into play in 1998, but Bari and Mudug were outside SNM influence in 1991 and controlled by warlord Abdillahi Yusuf. Abdullah knows all that but unable to refute Sougal argument, he chose diversion.

Meanwhile, the author says that Garad Saleebaan did voice his objection to the conference in an interview with the BBC English Service. Big deal. Everybody knows that Sool Garaads were and are divided, Garaad Saleebaan being the most vocal in his opposition to Somaliland. But did he mention during the BBC interview that he was held at gunpoint? And did the senior Garaad Qani had any reservations against the outcome?

Thanks to Sougal, it appears to me that Siadists are on the ropes. Their decade old lie of people held at gunpoint is crumbling fast and it seems that none of their rumblings is able to save it.

Haboon Ali
haboon_ali@hotmail.com

Laascanood freedom fighters

Posted on Sunday, September 02, 2007 - 01:00 AM
It is a grim reminder of our dead-end political situation when this discussion cannot take place inside our local media since Sool regional websites, along with our Garaad, have simply become a mouth-piece for the Puntland leader of the day. In the case of our media, constant bullying and several arrests made them so servile that they are the only ones painstakingly reporting the most uneventful of Puntland cabinet gatherings.

Now coming back to the NSPU ramblings, Mohsin contends that "Abdalla Hirad and the director of NSPU are from SSC regions as are other members of the team. They also belong to Puntland since SSC is part of it. This link may have escaped Mohamed mind". Without spreading the beans on the among cited gentlemen tribal lineages, I can assure the author that I know firsthand (I spent almost two decades in small town Ottawa) that none of NSPU members sub clan falls within Somaliland borders. But therein, I believe, lies the disagreement between me and Mohsin: Puntland is a tribal entity and therefore believes that it encompasses each parcel inhabited by one of its sub clan. The majority of NSPU members hail from Bosaaso and the western part of Bari region, but having tribal lineage with some Somaliland sub clans does not give them the right to define their team as a grassroot Sool and Sanaag movement. By this process of pushing out boundaries as widely as possible, NSPU might as well pose as Ethiopian Somali advocacy group; but don't laugh this might happen since oil smell in Ogaden could well entice them irresistibly.

On the Burao conference matter, there has been a great deal written by Siadists and here is the basic charade going on in their mind: after Faqashia fall, the most respected elders from each Somaliland clans were peacefully convening when a horde of trigger-happy SNM militiamen forced them at gun point to declare Somaliland separation.
Of course, this ludicrous historical account have been time and again rebuked by direct testimony from participants, but the entanglement began with a couple of high powered Siadist household asserting it on every media, of course without producing one single evidence, fieldwork or witness. Throw enough mud, they say, and part of its should probably stick.
As you could expect from a faithful Siadist, Mohsin borrows from the same manta when he calls the Burao conference "hijacked by extremist SNM hotbeds" but he adds with rare candor that "the participants from SSC were disowned and the secession declaration rejected out of hand". Here is something I fail to understand: how can you disown someone based on decisions he was forced to make when he was held at gunpoint? Shouldn't you feel compassion and empathy for him instead? And why SSC elders did not denounce this plot when they were safely back in their homeland? Why did not they flee to Puntland and took to the airwaves?

As a Somalilander, I feel amazed to hear this loosely accurate folk story but as a Lascanooder, I feel insulted at the suggestion that my 9 Garaads and statemen like Qaybe, Galaydh, Afqudhac could have been held at gunpoint during Burao conference and kept silent about it. How can some fellow Lascanooders sell themselves short by attributing? How could they attribute to our elders such unflattering and baseless behaviors? Why do they promote these lies?No one could bully the late Garaad Abdi Qani to sign, at gunpoint, unwarranted deal subsequently get away with.

Despite all the huffing, duffing and rumblings, Mohsin self-serving window dressing diguised as political analysis can be tested out to naive foreigners but cannot convince a Lascanooders like me. Indeed, contrary to Mohsion contention that "SSC never joined the secession", the historical facts point otherwise: my region was fully represented with all its 9 Garaads, senior statemen like early SNM member Afqudhacac (Puntland current VP), Xaabsade, Galaydh, Qaybe... I understand that when you are trying to gain visibility one way is to shock people with outrageous claim, and NSPU is exactly doing this, but the circus has to stop.

Mohamed Sougal
http://soolsomaliland.blogspot.com/

Sool: Open Letter to Garaad Jaamac Garaad Cali Garaad Jaamac

Dear Graad,

It is a well-known fact that the region of Sool is the least developed part of Somaliland. While an intensive study would be worthwhile, among all the diverse causes explaining why the situation in Sool is more desperate than ever, the leadership of the region remains the elephant in the room.

In any event, as a native Las-Anooder that I am, you may be predisposed to hearing my lamentations on this matter.(Laas-Anood: the capitla of Sool region.) Like all Las-Anooders abroad, I was extremely thrilled by your crowning last year; who else could build much needed communication channel between the region and Somaliland, and at the same time get the Diaspora more involved in rebuilding of our region? Our region has been facing pressing issues and it takes a man with vision and great influence to bring about the changes we need.

However, immediately after your crowning my hopes were dashed to the ground because the fact Puntland authorities ruined your installation by playing a tug-of-war with Somaliland, and with the former ICU. You may hear some small-town politicians from Garowe bullying your host, but you won't hear the elders from Hargeisa talking or any political talks regarding your installation from Somaliland. But as unfortunate as it sounds: the Puntland that deemed the burial of our late Garaad as unworthy of their presence were adding insult to injury by shamefully politicizing this centuries-old traditional ceremony. Your response, dear Garaad, was to speak out against the total lack of ceremonialism which was completely appalling. Instead of notifying and summoning the Garowe schizophrenic dictator, you folded like a cheap bag. Moreover, a week later, you embarked on an embarrassing region tour with a no-name Puntland minister, and made yourself the receiving end of a cheap propaganda stunt.

Dear Garaad, this subservient attitude you have showed Puntland made our people hostages for ProSomaliweyn groups who often leave us in the dust when they reach their goals. A case in point would be Abdullahi Yussuf.

Granted, my dear Garaad, Sool is particularly hospitable to political intrigues and divided loyalties, since many residents are subscribed to different administrations. But you have the advantage of first hand knowledge, and the guiding principles of our former Garaad. Nothing else could have given outward testimony to the value of the late Garaad leader who in fact kept both Puntland and Somaliland political maneuvers at bay, while keeping communication bridges open. Unfortunately, there is a considerable doubt and much discussion as to whether you could hold this tenuous balance, and observe closely this strange power taboos that you have inherited from our former Garaad, without further isolating the region.

As history attests, our leaders have always been referred to as visionary who were beyond short-term political gains by their admirers. Without a doubt, there is plenty of evidence to support such assertion. And while your predecessor would have fought with considerable energy and determination to address Buhoodle and Cagaare crisis, you decided to visit endless towns in Europe (sometimes only an hour apart). Maybe instead of holding meetings with Somalia Diasporas, you should have mediated our warring tribes back home. You were needed the most in Buhoodle and in Cagaare, not in Birmingham and in Cardiff.

Your ten-month long visit abroad only entertained all disgruntled Siyadists languishing on Abdillahi Yusuf and waiting to be included in the list of future diplomatic postings.

Dear Garaad, as Somalis say, "Ninkii tiisa daryeela ayaa tukale ku dara". Our people must not worry about displaying huge Somali flags in community centers; instead they must address the never-ending problems facing our region.

I hope you take the lead.

With my utmost respect
Mohamed Sougal

Who is speaking on my behalf?

When my people are killed in jail and killers never found

When those killing my people are freed from jail and never found

When my blood is worth 10000 US

When my Garaads are lining up for the Islan tacsi and my VP is forbidden from attending my Garaad burial

When my Holl Holl mountains are sold off to Aussies and the proceeds are building Garowe Airport

When my men are rounded up to fight in Kismaayo and Yey nephews are attacking Lascanood suburbs

When Xaabsadde is sacked for saving my blood

When my NGO money is used up in Garowe and thankfully my teachers paid by Somaliland

When my Garaad is on a 10 month tour abroad and cannot find time for Buhoodle crisis

When Taleex is burning and Fuad is alone fighting

When arms are flocking from Qardho and my forces sleeping in Adhi Caddey

Laascanood, ceelna uma qodan, cidna uma maqna

Mohamed Sougal
http://soolsomaliland.blogspot.com/

Is Awdalnews.com an Online Tabloid or a Reputable Website?

While one must respect awdalnews.com’s efforts to be fair to its contributors, one also wonders the purpose of posting tabloid articles that violate pillars of good journalism. These barely articles are not only written poorly, even a layman (like me) could point out their incoherence and inconsistence, but they also deliberately spew out a load after a load of venom towards Somaliland. Are the proofreaders of awdalnews.com dead? This is a mind-boggling exercise, to say the least.

A case in point: recently Aden Mohamed Tani published an article entitled, “Obituary of the brutal hunting of Rahanwayn refugees in the streets of Hargeisa”. In it, Mr. Tani claimed that after a group of local Hargaisa gangs chased 250 innocent Rahawayns through the streets of the city, the panic caused two people to be trampled to death. Does this make sense? Of course not! Since these people were not squeezed into a small area, they were chased in an open space; then there was no way that anyone would be trampled to death. What was even more bizarre than Mr. Tani’s accusation was: why 250 people could not defend themselves from a group of gangs? In his article, Mr. Tani shifted his topic sentence from defending the rights of Rahawayn to attacking the “secessionists’” agenda as he put it. Additionally, Mr. Tani accused the people of Hargaisa and Borame mistreating Rahawayne people. Clearly, his article not only missed its main objective—advocating for the rights of Rahawayn people—but also Mr. Tani shot himself in the foot when he attacked Somaliland people, under the pretext of defending Rahawayn rights.

Worse yet, Mr. Tani published another “article” entitled, “Sports and politics in the self declared Republic of Somaliland” on awdalnews.com. And again, he claimed some bizarre things that happened in Hargaisa, but this time for some odd reason, he was on the side of the people of Borame. In his earlier article, however, Borame was the same city that Mr. Tani accused its residents of mistreating the Rahanwayn people without credible shred of evidence. In his later article, he made fool out of himself when he fabricated yet another story that none of the Somaliland websites reported. As reported by Mr. Tani though, the Basketball team of Awdal region lost the trophy after the team failed to show up for the final game against Hargaisa’s team. And as alleged by Mr. Tani, Awdal’s team could not bear the insults such as Faqash(a derogatory term) that the Hargaisa’s fans hurled at the visiting team in earlier matches, and therefore the team decided not to compete anymore. These accusations are laughable. Why?

First, the provincial games of Somaliland have been played for the past 17 years, and the odd incident that Mr. Tani mentioned in his article was never reported before. So why Hargaisa fans would be so uncivilized all of a sudden remains bizarre. In addition, Hargaisa is not the capital of a tribal enclave as Mr. Tani portrayed it. It is rather a big city that is home to many not only Somalilanders, but also to Somalis. Furthermore, Hargaisa is home to thousands of Awdalites. Not to mention, there is a neighborhood called Isha Boorame. But isn’t it also a Somali tradition to welcome the visiting team rather than insulting them?

Of course, as part of the great Somali tradition, the visiting teams normally would stay with Hargaisa residences as a guest of honor during the games. During their stay, the visiting teams would tour around the city, and eat in some of the finest restaurants in the city with their host. The guest teams would also meet the extended families of their host, their friends, as well as their neighbors. So why the host would insult their guests defies common sense and logic. Second, none of the Somaliland websites or the media has reported this ugly incident that Mr. Tani dedicated to his article.

Without a doubt, Mr. Tani’s accusations—a hail of rubbish—were ludicrous. He even quoted himself and shared his palpable propaganda with us, "Can anyone imagine that a fanatic teacher asks your daughter in a Hargaisa School where she was born and she tells him that she was born in Mogadishu and he tells her from today on you should only say that you were born in Hargaisa?" No sir; but I couldn’t imagine either anyone quoting himself in his article. (And I didn’t know in Hargaisa babies are delivered in schools as opposed to in hospitals.) Why Mr. Tani quoted himself is beyond anyone’s guess. But this self-quoting does not bolster his story nor does it make his accusation more believable, does it?

Even, if we give Mr. Tani the benefit of the doubt and agree with his assertion that the ugly Faqash incident against the Basketball team from Awdal province really took place, how important was it to report such a thing, especially when thousands of Somalis died so far because of the brutal incursion into Somalis by Ethiopia-U.S unholy coalition? In addition, in sports name-callings and hurling insults at the opposing team are unfortunate but are not something new. Nor the hypothetical incident that supposedly happened in Hargaisa was exception to the rules.

In conclusion, clearly, Mr. Tani’s intention was neither to defend the rights of Rahanwayn people, nor to uphold the integrity of the Basketball team from Awdal region. In general, his attitude towards Somaliland speaks for itself, no need to read between the lines. However, undoubtedly, his “articles” make reputable website like awdalnews.com a playground for writer wannabes such as Mr. Tani. Also as it seems, Mr. Tani has his head up in his rear end, and any efforts to pull it out would pose an insurmountable challenge.

Dalmar Kaahin
Ottawa, Canada
dalmar_k@yahoo.com

The facts that NSPU does not want you to know

The facts that NSPU does not want you to know

Along with number of Somalilanders, I have been deeply troubled by the recent report of Awdalnews on all the fake argumentation used by NSPU during their high energy anti Somaliland campaign. Of course, every Somalilander is free to favor Somaliweyn and every Somali has a right to lament that Somaliland people had chosen to restore their independence. Having said that, civil discourse, transpartent debate and intelligent argumentation ought to prevail, what approach NSPU is unwilling to grasp.
First of all, while ostensibly talking in the name of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn inhabitants, NSPU fails to disclose the fact that none of its members hails from these regions. As a matter of fact, along with longtime Somaliland critic Abdallah Hirad, NSPU director and all its agit-prop team are Puntlandlers without any relevant knowledge of Sool and Sanaag. Therefore, NSPU extensive report on the political mood in Sool and Sanaag are like supermarkets tabloids titles: over promising but short on content. As a matter of fact, none of the knee-jerk criticism of NSPU is supported by evidence or diligent interpretation. Instead, the authors chose to draw from the usual Siadist mythologies, often simply condensing the tired rhetoric coined by famous anti Somaliland propagandist. For example, what is the merit of claiming that elders were forced into voting for Somaliland independence when first hand witness overwhelmingly testify to the contrary. Prime minister Galaydh, a delegate during the conference, flatly rejected any coercision while doubting the merits of the separation. If concern for an accurate analysis was not minimal, NSPU would have learn that Eastern Sanaag delegates were the most adamant to vote for separation for a variety of reasons, mainly pertaining to the mayhem in Mudug region. They would have also learned that SNM leadership was way cooler towards separation that the masses on the street, just remember the famous blue print coined by Ahmed Siraanyo. To young and gullible audience, you could purge and politicize historical facts and present Eastern Somalilanders as adamantely opposed to separation, but I personnaly witness a conference in Badhan in 1991 during which 11 out of 23 delegates (including Jibriil Ali Salaad, Makhtir new leader) voted for secession, days before Burao conference. So much for the SNM coercing elders .
Another popular urban legend promoted by NSPU argues that Somaliland has never been recognized as a State during its 4 days stint as an independent country (26 June/01 July 1960). Nothing could be farther from the truth since a quick search through the UN archives indicate that almost three dozens states welcomed the new nation.

More importantly, besides these historical discrepancies, there are relevant facts that NSPU extremist do not want you to know. They can claim day in and day out that Sool and Sanaag are administratively an integral part of Puntland, but invariably points invariably otherwise. All Eastern Sanaag NGO are based in Hargeisa and while Lascanood health, sport and school infrastructure are supposed to be funded through Garowe, Somaliland proudly undertakes the training and remuneration of all Sool teachers. And when Sool players brilliantly make their way through Somaliland games, I am confident that, despite the problems and frictions my Somaliland includes Lascanood.

Mohamed Sougal
http://soolsomaliland.blogspot.com

The true colors of the NSPU

If you have been following the news recently, you are well aware of the shadowy activities of a group called NSPU thanks in parts to the commendable effort of Awdalnews. Given the fact that the Ottawa group was by far the most vocal critic of Somaliland, I decided to pay them a visit. Briefly upon my arrival, I was stomached to learn that NONE of these activists hails from Somaliland. Do get me wrong, non Somalilanders are most welcome to critize my country (after all we are on Yey back day in and day out) , but please do not level false charges while speaking on my fellow Lascanooders names. For example, NSPU director, Gamal Hassan, is a Bosaaso native with no family linkage to Sanaag regions. And the majority of the board are Bari and Nugaal. How can you pretend to convey Sool and Sanaag feelings towards Somaliland and Somalia when your only experiences of Somaliland consist of shorts stopovers on your way to Puntland.
However a more prosaic explanation can be given to this in your face masquarade ; for years in Ottawa, low lifes, after spending a decade in university and facing up to the fact that there are no academic material, have been able to land big jobs in Uncle YeY government. No need to spin the beans, but look towards Yey advisors, would be ambassadors and Somalia UN staff to understand where I am coming from. NSPU is no different, there are simply sending signals to YeY, hope they are heard soon so they would live us, real Lascanooders, alone

Wasiir Ku Xigeen Majertenia ka yimid oo la xayriyey Shimbiraale, Sanaag

Xigasho: Laasqoraynet War Deg Deg ah Wasiir ka tirsan Maamul Goboleedka Puntland oo lagu rasaaseeyay Magaalada Shinbiraale ee Gobolka Sanaag
